What to Consider When Choosing a NIS 2 Auditor?

Under the current regulations of the Cybersecurity Act effective since January 16, 2023, businesses affected by the NIS2 directive must sign a contract with an auditor registered with the SZTFH. Originally, the contract was supposed to be signed by December 31, 2024. However, in its year-end announcement, the SZTFH stated that, as the relevant regulation is expected to be issued only in 2025, there will be no sanctions for missing the deadline. Nevertheless, it is advisable to take steps as soon as possible to select the appropriate expert, as the December 31, 2025, deadline for the first audit to be conducted remains unchanged for now.Given the tight deadline, it is advisable to take steps toward selecting a qualified NIS2 auditor as soon as possible. The NIS2 Directive is an enhanced version of the EU's cybersecurity measures adopted in 2022, aiming for a higher level of cybersecurity in critical sectors. As such, it is important to prepare and implement it in a timely manner as it can require significant effort and cost. The NIS2 Directive will have a significant impact on organisations and services in critical sectors. The implementation of the Directive is the responsibility of the Member States, and in Hungary it will be transposed by the 2023 Cybersecurity Act, which will enter into force gradually, with particular emphasis on high-risk areas, and will designate the Supervisory Authority for Regulated Activites (SARA) with the control tasks.
